Post-Game Thoughts
February 3, 2008Was hoping for it…but didn’t expect it…the victory was sweet. Wesley grew up a Giants fan…you should have seen him dancing around my living room. Tonight’s big winners…Miami Dolphin fans!!!
The last game of the season…Pro Bowl doesn’t count…it’s over…let the depression begin tomorrow. Denise is already hiding the sharp objects around the house. ![]()
A Superbowl Prayer
February 3, 2008Dear Lord…at half-time…please don’t let Tom Petty have a wardrobe malfunction!!!
Dear Urban Meyer
January 1, 2008Our guys were dancing on the Michigan logo before the game? It’s called “no class”. Please make sure that this is eliminated before next season.
Our guys were talking smack after almost every play? It’s called “immaturity”. Please make sure that this is eliminated before next season.
Tebow and Harvin was used almost exclusively as the offensive game plan? It’s called “zero depth”. Please make sure that this is eliminated before next season.
Continuing to call for short passes out of the shot gun when the offensive line had been blown out all day? It’s called “insanity”. Please make sure that this is eliminated before next season.
Fourth down and long on your own 25-yard line with over 2 minutes left in the game and all your time outs still left…and you go for it? It’s called “poor coaching”. Please make sure that this is eliminated before next season.
Showing your anger at your players when it’s obviously not their fault? It’s called “no leadership”. Please make sure that this is eliminated before next season.
If you do not feel that these areas need to be eliminated…then please don’t get angry when you are eliminated as Florida’s head coach. It may have been acceptable at Utah and Bowling Green…but it’s not the way we roll down here in Florida!!!
Congrats To Steve Carr
December 30, 2007Congratulations to Steve Carr who made a stellar comeback…and beat me in the blogging pastors league’s fantasy football Super Bowl by 11 points (so far…he still has one more player that could rack up more points this evening). It was a fun season…I played in three different leagues….though I did the best in blogging pastor’s league. Second place isn’t so bad…at least I did better than this very girly guy!!!
Thanks to Matt Mehaffey, Travis Johnson, Dave Anderson, Bob Franquiz, David Boggs, Michael Lukaszewski, Troy McMahon, Mark Nelson…and especially the league champion Steve Carr…for letting me be a part of the fun.
It All Comes Down To One Game
December 30, 2007In August I was asked to play in a fantasy football league for blogging pastors. Some of them I had talked to by phone or email…but very few of them I’ve actually met in person. For me it was a great way to get to know some other men of God in a fun way. I lost the first six games…since then I have gone undefeated. Today is the Super Bowl in the league and I am playing Steve Carr for the bragging rights. After seventeen weeks it all comes down to one game. Unfortunately my main scoring players are resting on the bench today getting ready for the playoffs. I had to grab a bunch of folks off of the free agency list last night…let’s see if it pays off.
Superbowl Review
February 5, 2007As if the world needs another review of this year’s Superbowl, I will offer my two cents nevertheless.
The Game - A complete snore-fest! While I’m glad the Colts won the game, it was one of the most uneventful and boring Superbowl’s I’ve seen in a long time. The rain factor really sent the whole affair into the crapper!
The MVP - You have got to be kidding me, Peyton Manning? What exactly did he do? The press says he didn’t make any mistakes and held onto the ball. Isn’t that what he gets paid millions of dollars to do? He’s a great quarterback, but his non-stellar play last night did not warrant him the MVP. Dominic Rhodes or Joseph Addai were much more deserving of the MVP! Actually Rex Grossman was the best player for the Colts last night.
Prince - While I truly missed a good "wardrobe malfunction", I thought Prince rocked the house! To me, it was one of the better "modern-day" halftime shows in recent Superbowl history. You gotta give Prince and his band props for playing in the downpour. They didn’t fall, they didn’t quit, they gave it their all and I know that had to be getting shocked at some point in the performance.
The Commercials - They all just sucked. Some sucked worse than others (all of the car commercials were bad, including that stupidity with the guys in their underwear). Others we not as bad (E*Trade and Career Builder were okay - the K Fed commercial would have been hilarious if it hadn’t been pimped so much before last night). All in all, quite a few companies wasted alot of money last night.
The African American "Thing" - I’m not a racist and I’m not trying to start any crap. However, the whole African American focus was really overblown…and not needed…last night. It was the first Superbowl to have rain. The Colts were the first indoor stadium team that won a Superbowl. It was the first Superbowl to feature an opening kick-off touchdown. Smith and Dungy are two really great coaches and men of integrity…not to mention they are solid Christians. Yet, all the press wanted to focus on was that it was the first Superbowl that an African American coach made it to (Smith) and won (Dungy). C’mon people, this is 2007. Isn’t it time to just let people be people and not label them by color? It may just be me, but I think it’s pretty racist to focus on people’s race…instead of their accomplishments!!!
Dungy’s Going To The Dance
January 21, 2007
As a Buc’s fan, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Tony Dungy. Obviously, Gruden and the Bucs rode to their Superbowl win on the shoulders and former leadership of Dungy. I am thrilled that he finally has a shot at going to "the big dance" and winning the Superbowl. I’ll be rooting for him and the Colts on February 4th.
