  • The pursuit of cultural relevance is a crock of crap…being counter-culture attracts people hungry for change.
  • There is nothing more counter-culture than actually living the Word of God.
  • Vision statements are for churches that never read Matthew 28:19-20.
  • I never ignore criticism…just the people who criticize.
  • The best mega-churches….never started out to be mega-churches (just ask Perry)
  • Listen to guys that are further down the road than you.
  • If your only concern is how many people showed up Sunday…you’ll never effectively reach disconnected people.
  • At 41-years-old my race is half over…I’m in the last few laps…it’s time to sprint.
  • If people come to your church because of a cool building…they’ll leave your church because of someone else’s cool building.
  • Being hard-nosed gets people to read you blog…but it isn’t always Biblical.
  • God’s Word doesn’t need our “dog and pony show” to be relevant today. We should just feel blessed that He still uses jackasses to talk!

  • Success can make you a whore.
  • Baptism is the beginning of the journey…not the end. Celebrate for a moment…but then get to work raising that child.
  • Never embrace church hoppers…yet don’t be leery of people that left another church to start a revolution.
  • That stupid “starfish story”…sounds cheesy in your twenties…but becomes a mission statement in your forties.
  • I’d rather be the first shepherd to a flock of 200….than a shepherd to 2,000 of someone else’s sheep.
  • Disconnected people can sometimes grow to become disgruntled Christians.
  • Every freakin’ day is war…don’t leave home without your armor.
  • All you really need to know…about anything…is in the Bible.
