This past Sunday I preached on the need for generosity to be a lifestyle and not just something on our task list. The culture of generosity is one that we desire to teach at Compass Point. Generosity isn’t just about finances…it’s about everything that God has blessed us with.
Since we began as a Bible study years ago Compass Point has always maintained a desire to share everything that God gave us with other churches, organizations and people. There was a time when another church met at the hotel conference room we were renting. We left our sound system up on Sunday mornings so they could use it Sunday nights. When a local school in a poverty-stricken area needed school supplies we donated over 100 book bags filled with paper, scissors, rulers, crayons, spiral notebooks, etc. There were days when we sent our last $250 in the bank to other church planters just starting out in other states.
I write these things not to brag on Compass Point…but to point out God’s goodness. He has continued to bless our church with abundance and it is our responsibility to be generous with what He has given…lest He take it away. Generosity is not something we figure into the budget at Compass Point…it is the way in which we desire to live.
