Dunkin’ Donuts is coming into it’s own around Lakeland. Not necessarily for the donuts…but for the coffee. Don’t get me wrong…Dunkin’ Donuts isn’t as cool, hip or trendy as Starbucks. In fact Dunkin’ Donuts is seen almost as uncool…for people not sitting at the “cool kid’s table”. Yet time and again it wins in taste tests and customer satisfaction surveys over Starbucks.
Recently I began to think about what kind of church Compass Point is. Over my vacation it hit me…we are Dunkin’ Donuts…not Starbucks. We’re not the coolest or trendiest church in town. We don’t have the biggest production, best graphics or top-of-the-line technology. We’re pretty raw, unrefined and laid back. We attract very few Christians…and those that do come usually don’t stay all that long. Yet…time and again we reach messy people for Christ. Seldom does a month go by that we don’t see someone far from God give their life to Christ. Seeing God change lives and eternities is the norm around Compass Point.
In essence we may not be cool like Starbucks…but when it comes to the things that matter…we are effective like Dunkin’ Donuts. I like that…and embrace that….and praise God for that!!!
