Having studied the Bible for many years now I am fairly sure that God does not bless a style, structure or strategy. He doesn’t bless hymns more than praise choruses. He doesn’t hang out at low tech churches more that high tech churches. God is not a Calvinist or an Armenian. He doesn’t reveal His Word more to people listening to expositional preaching than topical sermons. His Spirit is not moving more in a rural church than an urban one. God doesn’t bless things…He doesn’t bless ideas…He blesses people. He blesses humble Godly people that die to themselves everyday and follow the Father no matter what the cost.
As church pastors and leaders it’s time we died to ourselves. It’s time we died to our arrogance concerning styles, structures and strategies. It is time we put away our pride over “how our church is doing it the right way” mentality. What we do is not as important to God as the heart and attitude with which we do it. It’s also time to stop looking to the latest, greatest and coolest style, structure or strategy to get our church to the next level. God is the only thing that can…or will…create the atmosphere in which we see people come to Christ.
